Hatipathar Falls draws its name from the two words that are Hathi, which means an elephant and Pathar, meaning a boulder. This waterfall is a part of Nagavali River and flows through a deep cut valley. The State Highway 10 connects this sightseeing spot with the Rourkela town. 3 km from Rayagada, the river Nagavali flows through a deep cut valley, forming two lovely waterfalls. An ideal picnic spot known for its scenic beauty, the place gets its name from the huge elephant shaped boulders (in Oriya, Hati means elephant and Pathar means boulder) that litter the landscape. This waterfall has gained immense popularity as a picnic spot and tourists flock here to enjoy the natural vista of the surrounding. The rocky cuts of the mountain here appear like colossal elephants and travelers come here in large number to unwind the city blues.
